The Coffee Lady (#629)

This lady served coffee at the Ft. Pierce Farmers Market.

Several weeks ago, I participated in a street portraiture workshop in Savannah. The thrust was approaching strangers, and taking their pictures. Many will appear here in the months ahead.

Hizzhonor (#528)

The mayor of New Smyrna Beach heads the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

I had to lay on the sidewalk to get this perspective.

Size (#527)

The business end of a Saturn V rocket.

Size matters.

The Omelet Chef (#626)

This energetic chef was preparing omelets at the Ft. Pierce farmer's market. When he saw my camera, he immediately posed.

He was as much an entertainer as chef.

Easter (#625)

Oops! I should have posted this on Easter.

Hardware Store (#624)

Too pretty a face to be working in a hardware store.

We Senior Citizens just don't "get it".

A window to the left gives a dynamic light pattern.

Implied Diagonal (#620)

Diagonal lines add tension and movement to images.

I feel that the two poles imply a diagonal that makes the omage less static.

There are a lot of ways to make a buck in this world.

The Card Sound Bridge, connection upper Key Largo to the mainland.

The Resort (?) (#617)

Gilbert's, a VERY funky "resort" in Key Largo, FL.

The Helm (#616)

This the lower helm of our boat, GONDOLA, in late afternoon light.

But we NEVER helm from there - always from the flybridge.

Alternate Sunrise (#615)

Leaving Naples - morning dew on the Isenglas.

Bob

Safety (#614)

Anchored in Little Shark River, Everglades, there is only one way to safely photograph sunrise.

The hordes of biting insects makes a trip outside inadvisable.

Civil Twilight (#613)

The Dock restaurant in Naples, FL.

During Civil twilight (~30 minutes after sunset), the ambient light and man-made lights have similar exposures. Nice colors.

The Waiter (#612)

This waiter began with a rather stern, formal, demeanor. But a couple of photos, and a print from the POGO printer (see post #609) softened him up.

Print (#609)

Got a quick shot of the waitress prior to ordering.

Not a great shot. Actually I am down on myself for not repositioning her away from the window. But, it was still a fun encounter, because I made a print on the spot and gave it to her. She beamed, laughed and ran off to show it to her coworkers.

The POGO printer easily fits into a pocket, and makes a print in one minute. Fun.

Perspective (#605)

Perspective is everything, especially with a wide angle lens.

A sunset is a sunset, right? A snail's eye view changes perspective.

I kinda like this, and will post a couple of more of these this week.

The Eye (#603)

Can't figure out the eye of this pelican.

I have several shots of him landing on a channel marker. The eye looks like this in all of them.

The Eye (602)

This is what happens when the ophthalmologist dilates only one eye.

This is a self portrait. The proof is in the catchlight:

That's me, holding the camera.

Same bird, different day. He's very tolerant of the camera.

Maybe next I'll get his tonsils.

Looong Dock (#600)

With a poor economy, not many docks have been built recently.

More dear to my heart, this is post #600! An even number.

The Failure (#599)

Sometimes I just fail to express my vision in a photograph. Here I had planned to Have the Great Blue Heron very sharp, with the Anhinga in the background, out of focus.

But, even at f2.8 the Anhinga is almost in focus; it looks like I tried to get him sharp and missed. The birds were just too close together.

Oh well, next time.

I like this location, but it doesn't look so inviting immediately before a front.

This front brought 9 tornadoes to Florida, all north of Venice.

ISO 1600 (#596)

Downtown Sarasota.

Captured this hand held: Nikon D90, Nikkor 35mm f1.8 at f2.0 for 1/10 sec, ISO 1600. Cleaned up some noise with Topaz DeNoise.

I had to get one more post in today. This makes 100 posts in the first quarter of 2011. :-)

Preparation (#595)

Preparation, prior to a cruise, is invaluable.

The late "Motor Boat and Sailing" editor, Dick Bradley said, "My definition of good seamanship is avoiding situations that require it".

Touche.

Expectations (#594)

High hopes.

Every morning fuels a fisherman's sense of hope over experience.
