Often the high clouds of winter lead to more dramatic sunsets than the low cumulus clouds of summer.

Well Worn Subject

The Bird of Paradise is a very "mature" subject.

Nevertheless, I just like the backlighting on the plumage.

Depth of Field

When photographing flowers that are very three dimensional, creating an appropriate depth of field is a tough call.

Gondola Parts

When you live in Venice, FL, it makes sense to understand gondolas. The first image includes two wooden decorative models of gondola parts. Do you recognize them?

The larger model is a forcola, the decorative oarlock seen below.

The smaller model is the ferro. It is made of an iron alloy, and adds weight for proper balance.

Notice that the ferro has six projections facing forward. They represent the six sestieres (districts) of Venice: Cannaregio, San Polo, San Marco, Santa Croce, Castello, and Dorsoduro.

It's very important to know this stuff.

Who Knows?

In flower photography, it's easy to organize the frame with interesting colors, lines, and space-shapes.

As long as I don't have to know what these things are...

Enough Already!

After a few brief brushes with fall-like weather, another week around 90. Still a towering afternoon thunderstorm.

The weatherman says that it will be cooler this week - in the low 80s. Break out the snowshoes!
