Finally - a Roseate Spoonbill (#527)

It only took a zillion shots to get this one.

Bob

(#526)

This red shouldered hawk was very cooperative.

But, where are the shoulders?

Treasure Hunter (#525)

RC hunts his treasures in spite of fog at the pier. At this time he had collected about $0.36 and a couple of soda cans.

He keeps garbage separate for later disposal. Thanks, RC.

Where did it go? (#524)

This was the 4th foggy day in a row, very unusual in SW Florida.

Angles (#523)

Angles, angles. To generate some symmetrical angles, I set flash to "repeat" (strobe effect), and swung a piece of wood while the shutter was open.

In Photoshop I duplicated the image and flipped it horizontally. It's not for everyone, but I got some practice with a camera setting that I have never used before.

Recognition 2 (#522)

The Sarasota Institute of Lifetime Learning recognized a lady who has attended lectures for 30 years.

When in college, I could never have conceived of such a feat.

Vanquished (#521)

This apparently defeated fisherman is on the verge of being consumed by the fog.

Grounded (#520)

Too foggy...

...even the pelicans can't fly.

Bob

The Flock(#519)

Oh well...

...whistling ducks don't look like much from 1/4 mile away.

The Peep (#518)

Some bird photographers call these little shorebirds "Peeps". I tend to call all of them sandpipers, but there are actually several different species.

I think that this one is a sanderling. Or not.

Da Big Guy (#517)

Apparently, one good outcome of recent cold fronts is the effect on roses. My wife's rose garden has never looked better.

This one is seven inches across, and the aroma is obvious the minute that I open the front door.

Patriotic (#516)

It's nice for a business to display the flag.

But when the business sells Swiss chocolates, which flag is the patriotic one?

Frosty (#515)

I had difficulty separating the glass from the background.

The glass is a bit over sharpened, but I think that the increase in contrast contributes to the "frosty" look.

Aahhh... (#514)

On a cold day, just holding the cup is nice.

This restaurant's hostess was in the previous post.

Bob

The Hostess (#513)

The hostess at a restaurant allowed me to photograph her.

The Ice Cream Lady (#511)

So, why is she so happy?

I'm the one who's going to eat the ice cream?

SILL (#510)

The Hibiscus(#509)

No big deal, except that I shot this with my (fairly)new Tamron 17-50mm lens.

Always good to enjoy results after spending some $$$.

Dining al fresco at the Columbia Restaurant, St. Armand's Key, Sarasota.

January in Sarasota can be tough.

Not For Gator haters (#506)

OK, I promise that this will be the last images from Christmas 2010. A significant portion of our Christmas decorations are colored orange and blue.

I am back to numbering blog posts so that I'll see how I am doing toward 365 for 2011. I need to get to 862.

Helping Hands

Everyone needs a hand once in a while.

Bob

Penny Pinching

This store on St. Armand's Circle in Sarasota pays a gazillion dollars a month rent.

Couldn't someone operate the doorstop properly? How much did those pavers cost?

Bob

Uh Oh...

I'm using my laptop for a couple of days and my recent photos are on the desktop. So, to the archives.

These are from north Georgia during the recent leaf peeping season.

The Village

My wife LOVES Christmas decorations. A few years ago, I built a crude table that she could use for a Christmas village. Almost immediately it filled up.

Now what - more tables?

Bob

The Sentinel

Birds are so easy to photograph... when they stand still.

To a true bird photographer (not me), this is one step above a plastic flamingo on the front lawn.

Nearly a Half Century

The Venice Beach Pavilion was opened in the spring of 1964, nearly 1/2 century ago. I recall it well, as it was my senior year at Venice High School (gulp!).

Here some country musicians perform for an ad hoc appreciative audience. One of the pavilion's first official functions in 1964 was to be location for the Prom dance. But, it rained...

Raising the Bar

Most of us boat owners have boats with solid color topsides, perhaps with an accent stripe. I am seeing more and more boats with jazzy graphics and/or pictures.

This boat was displayed at the West Marine store in Sarasota, FL. To date, this is the most complicated, three dimensional graphic that I've seen. Beautiful.

A New Beginning

OK, it's time to start over. In 2011 I WILL produce 365 blog posts, each with at least one photograph. I may post 364 times tomorrow and be done with it; any combination to make 365. So, here goes:

I call this "Three Angles waiting for Santa"

P.S. Santa did arrive.
