Myakka Deer
In two hours at Myakka State Park I saw more deer than I've seen in several years. Most of them were in heavily wooded areas, and there was too little light for an acceptable exposure. This one stepped out into a road. I accidentally had the ISO set to 1600, but the shutter speed was still only 1/100 second. I had to do some pretty hefty sharpening in Photoshop to make this usable. It is nice that at ISO 1600, noise is not too bad.
With the new D90, I'm not sure that I am using the optimal auto focus settings, so that may be part of the problem. In Thom Hogan's blog, he says that the D90 auto focus system is not as good as the D300, but it is still pretty good. He goes on to say that if you are unhappy with auto focus results, that you are probably not doing it right.
Practice, practice, practice.
